Yellowstone Trail
The Yellowstone Trail was an early 1900's road which began at Plymouth
Rock on the east coast and meandered through the United
States on its way west to Puget Sound near Seattle. The Yellowstone
Trail traveled through several towns in Clark County
including Abbotsford, Curtiss, Owen, Withee, and Thorp. This trail was the nation's first
interstate highway to be completed.
A nationwide program has begun to retrace the trail and mark it with
historic signage. This movement is in progress in Clark
County and throughout the state of Wisconsin. Al Capone
made several stops along this road in Clark
County while on his travels from Chicago to his
"Hideout" up north. The Yellowstone Trail Old Car Drive is held in conjunction with
Thorp Dairy Days in early June.
