Chili, a small town in southeastern Clark County, reportedly got its name in 1881, from railroad officials determined to name the various stops along the line. At one stop, due to fierce blowing winds, officials would not leave the train. "Chilly" was the way the railroad officials described it, and after a misspelling, the name "Chili" came about. The railroad tracks are long gone, but miles of beautiful and well-maintained snowmobile and ATV trails run through Chili that link northern and southern Clark County to Wood County. The Fire Department's Chili Street Dance is the main event in the community during the first weekend in August. Santa makes a traditional visit the second weekend in December and the community-wide Easter Egg Hunt is the weekend of Easter. The community ballpark has been reopened this past year with tournaments during the summer. The Chili Park is available yearround for picnics, gatherings and camping. Chili, located on County Highway Y between Highway 10 and Highway H, has a location with a small town feel, but the convenience of being 10-15 minutes from larger cities.
