STANLEY, WI
Stanley
is located strategically on Highway 29, a major four-lane limited access
highway. It is located approximately
halfway between Green Bay and the Twin Cities
of St. Paul/Minneapolis and thus is easily accessible to large population
centers. The Canadian National Railroad
serves the community and is capable of moving manufactured products to national
markets or bringing in raw materials to industrial plants in the city.
Today Stanley is experiencing a “Rural
Renaissance.” The Stanley Correctional Institution opened in
the fall of 2002 and it houses 1,500 inmates and employs slightly over
400. In July 2002 Ace Ethanol became the
first large-scale producer of ethanol in the State of Wisconsin. In July 2004 Ace doubled its
production and now produces 40 million gallons of ethanol annually. The plant benefits grain farmers as 14
million bushels of corn are purchased annually.
Currently two additional plants are in the planning stages and when
completed the three plants will make up a cluster of industries that will be
capable of using by-products from ethanol production. Both plants are expected
to use cutting edge technology. Total
investment in these plants is expected to be in excess of $125 million dollars.
The City of Stanley
has a city council that has repeatedly demonstrated its willingness to work
with major industries and has aggressively laid the foundation for the
development of both industries and businesses in the city. Since 1998 Stanley has spent over $15 million dollars
expanding its infrastructure in order to serve new development in the
city. At the same time the city also
purchased 420 acres of land along Highway 29.
One of the major parcels has been planned for businesses and residential
development and one parcel is being planned for industrial development. With
200 acres of land set aside for an Industrial Park the city has hired a
consulting firm to plan for railroad access and has also been working very
closely with a the Canadian National Railroad in order to best plan and use
this resource. The city has also worked
very closely with the State Department of Transportation to plan major
interchanges near the Industrial Park and near a new hospital located on the
eastern edge of the city. Both of the
planned interchanges are a part of the city’s official map for future planning
purposes.
Stanley is a
progressive community that had a new hospital open in November 2003. Operated under one roof is a 24-bed inpatient
hospital, surgical suites, outpatient facilities including kidney dialysis and
cardiac rehabilitation, a medical clinic and emergency care. State of the art equipment is available to provide
quality services. A drive around the
community shows evidence of new business and housing developments. Quality of life amenities include a community
Fitness Center and Olympic size swimming pool
attached to the local public high school.
The city has beautiful parks that have walking and bike paths and a
campground. Stanley is in the heart of good hunting and
fishing.
Stanley is truly a community for all seasons and its slogan is “Stanley, a City Keeping
Up With The Times.” Visitors are always welcome and industry and new businesses
interested in considering the city are invited to make inquiry at
715-644-5758. The city stands ready to
use its full resources to assist.
